Escapament is the second book of The Neumarian Chronicles. As I had
already read the first one, Weighted, I could follow the ideas of the author. I
really liked reading Weighted, so I was excited to know how it would be the
next step of Raeth’s journey.
In Weighted, the main character is Raeth; in Escapement who tells
the story is Princess Semara. I did not expect it at all, but it was clever for
sure. I reckon my interesting in reading Escapement increased a lot. Continuing
the story by a different of point of view was awesome. Semara shows the other
side of the coin.
There are some aspects of the book that I can’t let them pass by.
One of them it is the way Ciara Knight (author) uses their characters to treat so delicate
matters as family, prejudice, love (especially teenage love), fear, war, power,
slave, secret and friendship is fantastic.
The plot and the characters play with readers while the narrative
waves in ups and downs. Let me explain! In some moments you can trust in Bendar
(for example), but few chapters later you question if he is really who he says
to be. Or why Raeth keeps secrets from people who love.
Well… Be prepared to make lots of questions to yourself. But don’t
worry, the author will connect the dots of this puzzle and you will be surprised.
