In the year that Tim completes 21
years old, his father tells him all men of the family can travel in time. Then,
he realizes how this secret family can be used to solve some problems, now he
can fix whatever he did wrong in the past, especially about women. However, not
everything is easy in life, even if you can travel in time.
The film is emotional, sensible,
romantic, and comic, I could mention 10,000 adjectives to describe it.
The excitement to watch this film
was huge for many reasons. Two of them were: Richard Curtis and Bill Nighy.
I have been a huge fan of Richard
Curtis even when I did not know who he really was. Let me explain, I have been
completely addicted to Mr Bean episodes since 1990. Only in 2003, when I saw
Love Actually I realized that Richard Curtis was one of the writers of my
favourite TV programme as well as Rowan Atkinson.
Good writer, good director, great
cast: a fantastic film. Just have one exception, maybe it is a little bit
longer than it should be. However, it is a film that involves you in a love
atmosphere, you do not feel like a silly person watching a fool romantic film.
It is sincere, simple and real even when theme is travelling time.
A
middle-age man returns to his hometown (Sussex) for a funeral. Driving on the
way where the funeral was happening, he changes route and pulls over in front
of a place that many years ago there was his former house that he spent his
childhood. For some reason, something takes his attention on the end of road:
the Hempstock’s farm. From now on, he is going to bring back some old memories
that include his friend Lettie Hempstock.
Adventure,
fantasy, mystery, drama are some of the ingredients of this amazing story so well
written by Neil Gaiman.
Before
reading the book, I was afraid because I was not in the mood of deep inside
human being stories, but after read reviews and comments, I took a risk. I do
not regret at all!
Gaiman
built a sincere main character, so close to reality, a regular man whose past is
part of him even he does not know or remember. The readers and characters will
suffer, imagine, and feel together all the moments.
One
special point transforms a simple story in a masterpiece: the soul. The boy/man
soul is revealed during the process of memory, how our mind, especially a kid’s
mind, react to life and its happenings (bad and good), how it works to be safe
of problems of life. Most likely fantasy is one of the ways that children use
to run away from adult’s world as the writer says.
Honestly,
I cried sometimes while I was reading it, but it is not because it is sad, it
is because it is magic and real at the same time. There is a fact that I have
to put in words, it really happened, I am not lying I swear. One night, I woke
up at 4 a.m. to prepare porridge. Porridge? Yes. In the book, porridge is
mentioned many times and I could not resist, old Mrs Hempstock influenced me.
CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE MURDER was a Crhistmas gift from a friend of mine who
loves reading as well. After take a look at the synopsis I said to her that she
had done the best choice, she put together things that I love: chocolate and mystery.
Honestly, I
appreciate so much YA books even being a 35 year-old woman. I have read
different kind of stories, but YA stories are very special for me. They are sincere;
they have a fairy tale atmosphere and I feel close to the characters (male or
female character, it does not matter). I decided to explain because I wrote
others reviews with the same topic (TAKE
A LOOK AT ME NOW, CHARLOTTE STREET and BLUE IS FOR NIGHTMARES).
Joanne Fluke, author of CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE MUDERER,
tells us a story of Hannah Swensen, The Cookie Jar’s owner and a fantastic
baker, her cookies are really popular in Lake Eden. One beautiful morning,
the deliveryman of Cozy Cow Dairy was found dead behind her store. This fact
intrigues her and she follows the clues of this murder. Of course, she has a
little help of her brother-in-law, Bill, who is investigating the
crime officially.
Lots of
suspicions, laughs and mystery are mixing in this book. Joanne Fluke puts the
readers inside the Hannah’s mind in a softy way. Suspense and humour walk side
by side. You cannot miss this reading, even if you are an adult.
Let your mind
free, jump into a new adventure.
Look out! You will want to eat many cookies in this journey!
Hello, Everybody... How are you? I am happy to be
here again sharing my opinions with you! Feel free to comment and start a
discussion, anytime.
This review is about the
second movie of what I call a trilogy. I know it is not exactly a trilogy, it
is a film divided in three parts.
The Hobbit – Desolation of
Smaug continues talking about the journey of dwarves to take back their kingdom
(Erebor). To achieve their goal they need Bilbo Baggins (the burglar) for the
mission comes off. Otherwise, Bilbo has a secret, the ring is still with him
and nobody else knows (at least he thinks).
I like sagas a lot,
especially that ones which involve mythology, but I am not a huge fan of LORD
OF THE RINGS. On the other hand, I am in love with THE HOBBIT. Since I watched
THE HOBBIT – AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY in 2012, I have been astonished and became a
fan immediately. What a fantastic movie!
Some reviewers prefer to
compare the book to the film. It is good to compare, however we must be careful.
It is not right to say one is better than the other, because they have
different kind of language. The screen players Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens,
Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro did an amazing work, they do not follow the
book entirely neither frustrate who expect sees the book inside the film. It is
possible to remember the scene of film when you are reading the book and
vice-verse, even though they are not the same.
The elf Legolas is one of the
characters whose participation was a choice of the screen players, because he
does not exist in the book yet. A great idea! Although I consider Orlando
Bloom’s career not as good as people thinks, but he has done a not bad job as
Legolas since THE LORD OF THE RINGS.
It is time to go the cast,
officially! I have lots of things to say about this topic, but two words could embody
everything: ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! I am not going to analyse all of them,
only three, because it would be an enormous review. It is clear as crystal that
each actor and actress of this saga took his characters so serious and grew up
with them.
One of the actors does not
need presentation: Ian Mckellen - a master in acting. He proves (he does not
need to show anything, we know, we always knew) to be a perfectionist in every
single scene. Martin Freeman - known by playing Watson in SHERLOCK (TV) – is a
great actor, I have to confess I am a big fan of Sherlock and admire so much
Martin in his work on TV, his performance never disappoint me. Richard Armitage
(our King under the mountain) is another nice choice, he is really good at. I
am pretty sure he is the tallest dwarf I have ever seen in my whole life, he
became a giant in dwarf skin in minutes, if you know what I mean.
There is an especial scene
that I picked up to you just for you feel the vibe of the film: Bilbo surfing
on the Dragon’s fortune, or better, Bilbo sliding on the Smaug’s treasure. It
is unforgettable!
Well, I don not want to stop
writing, it is so many things that it should be said, but this review must end ,
so I finish it now and leave a tip for you:
If you are addicted to elf,
orc, sorcerer, wizard, dwarf, hobbit, enchanted mountain, duel, sword an many
more strange creatures, run to the movies right now, it is an order!!!!!
